One of my new New Year’s Resolutions is to do more “adult” things.
I’m trying to become more independent and with that becoming more secure, self-assured, and important in my daily life. I feel like it’s so easy to keep relying on others for simple things, and I truly need to be able to support myself in almost every way. I think I will still text my dad to ask if I can take both Advil AND cold medicine, or ask my mom to wash the occasional thing for me (because shes about to start a load!!), or ask my sister to help take blog pictures, but those are small things in the grand scheme of it all.
I’m talking big picture items: getting ahead in my career, becoming more financially literate, trying new foods to see if I really don’t like them, truly sticking to a schedule for a long time, stuff like that!
I’m going to be turning 24 next month, and I want to move to a new city by the end of the year. I feel like it’s high time for me to become more comfortable with being uncomfortable. So, here’s my list of “adult-isms” that I will be working on for the forseeable future.
Adult-ism 1: Maintain STEADY control of my finances, paying credit card off in full, keeping a budget.
Adult-ism 2: Not be texting, chatting, or interacting with someone to pass the day.
Adult-ism 3: Can just fall asleep at night, no Netflix, no phone, just sleep!
Adult-ism 4: Can do all chores before something fun.
Adult-ism 5: Maintain a schedule for a set period of time without breaking obligations (unless necessary).
These might seem like totally easy, run of the mill things that you might do all the time. For me, they aren’t. I like to think that these are things that will better myself in the future. After trying these five tasks, I like to think I’ll come out on the other side a little more *adult*…but probably just frustrated.
Each Adult-ism will have their own blog post to follow up.
